Our History & Our Name.
Our History: Meru Global Technologies was originally founded in New York City in November 2017 to commercially address structural dislocations underway in the active investment management industry being driven by both regulatory and technological change, as well as continuous headwinds from active to passive and active to quantitative capital flows. These forces will have real world implications on financial institutions large and small, as well as on each of their dedicated employee bases. In April of 2018, the company announced it was moving into the LSU Innovation Park in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
From page one mutual fund portfolio managers to emerging PMs, research analysts, investment professionals and other industry participants, Meru Global was founded to provide parity of service that matches a client's future potential vs typical institutional support only provided with a rear-view mirror mindset.
Our Name: The name "Meru" has relevant meaning and informs our internal efforts and corporate culture on several levels: From the first-of-its-kind summit documented at merufilm.com; to its literal translation of backbone or spine; to its references of enlightenment in religious settings, we would encourage you to take a 15 minute coffee break when you're not too busy and Google "Meru" just to learn something interesting and new.
Founder & CEO
Philip Capone, CFA
Prior to founding Meru Global Technologies in November 2017, Philip has represented clients large and small on an internal basis for 10 years. Practicing since before the financial crisis, Philip brings full economic cycle experience, including hands-on operating, agent, and principal investing experience. Coupling this accrued experience, with his vision on the structural industry change currently underway, led him to form and launch Meru Global.
Philip started his career in 2007 at Capital One Securities (formally Southcoast) located in New Orleans, working on the sell side as part of an established (still kicking) energy research team. In 2008 after a brief stint at Oppenheimer & Company covering Financial Markets during the Financial Crisis, Philip transitioned over to the buy side where he learned and honed his craft (and understanding of the industry) supporting PMs on Wall Street at name brand firms (OppenheimerFunds), as well as several years in the hedge fund world.
